Hello Everyone! Welcome back to another Friday blog. Today I wanted to give you guys an UPDATE on the health journey of someone precious to me - my father-in-law - Bill. He recently saw his pulmonologist who told him he no longer has COPD! šŸ˜³ WHAT?!!! No more inhalers - no more oxygen - no more breathing treatments! Let me give you some background.

He is approaching 80, retired navy, smoked for 54 years, COPD and sleep apnea for 28 years, HTN (hypertension), high cholesterol, obesity, heart attack, triple bypass surgery, osteoarthritis and 5 major strokes. After stroke #5 in March 2022, he decided he needed to do something to regain his health. He asked for my help - after all, Iā€™ve been deep in the rabbit hole of research - and of course, I replied with an enthusiastic YES!

He started his Precision Nutrition ProgramĀ April 2022. We began working toward reversing a host of (sadly common) chronic metabolic disease processes - including gut/microbiome dysbiosis, SIFO (small intestinal fungal overgrowth), NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver), IR (insulin resistance), lipid/cholesterol/triglyceride imbalance, CVD (cardiovascular disease), obesity, chronic inflammation, OA (osteoarthritis), sleep apnea and COPD with optimizing his nutritional status and lifestyle changes. He never misses his 4T HP-EVOO (high polyphenol extra virgin olive oil) every morning! - focuses on clean high-quality protein, nutrient-rich organic vegetables, nuts and seeds and phytochemically-rich foods. He includes lots of cruciferous vegetables, onions and garlic, sauerkraut and other fermented foods. In fact, he learned to make his own homemade Greek yogurt and sauerkraut! Charles and I are so proud of him and all his progress!

This is Bill before we started: BMI- 36.8, weight - 249, medications = 10 (BP, statins, others, inhalers, blood thinner). It was difficult to walk very far due to COPD and hip pain, had to wear shoes with Velcro and had difficulty rising from a chair.

Bill at Thanksgiving: BMI - 28.4, weight - 192, meds = 1 blood thinner, occasional inhalers. He is able to walk his dogs and walk to the mailbox ~ .9 mile, able to easily rise from a chair without using his arms, no longer needs suspenders, is able to wear shoes that tie - and can reach down and tie them. He says, ā€œthe hair is growing back on my arms, legs and chest.ā€ He exercised in his pool almost daily over the summer, primarily due to hip pain with walking. One of the most profound things that happened over the summer was - they did a scan and told him he had >90% blockage of his inguinal artery. They scheduled stent placement for 6 weeks later. When the surgeon went in to place the stent, it no longer needed a stent and he closed him up! šŸ˜³WHAT????!!!! That artery cleaned itself up in 6 weeks? He has gradually been able to increase walking - we also added some stretching exercises.

Now, he is walking > 1mile, has lost a few more lbs and has normalized the growth of hair on his arms, legs and chest. He is still working toward his goals - after the holidays he had one piece of advice - ā€œDONā€™T DO HOLIDAYS. They will kill your progress - I feel great! Many aches and pains have gone away.ā€

Thank you so much for your comment! Bill is taking the high polyphenol EVOO. It is robust. The highest polyphenol EVOO available also changes depending on harvest. This is a wonderful story, such a powerful transformation! This is a lot of important info that takes so much time to accumulate and you sum it up directly. I was wondering when taking the EVOO, is it on an empty stomach or does that matter?

Thank you for such a wonderful comment! Yes, timing matters. You are MOST insulin-sensitive after overnight fasting. When you take HP-EVOO (high polyphenol) on an empty stomach, it signals the liver to open bile ducts, it tells the brain you donā€™t need any glucose in the blood, you switch to ā€œfat-burningā€ mode. Because it is fat, you are satiated for several hours. This allows you to stay in ā€œautophagyā€ longer when you push your ā€œbreak-fastā€ till later ā€“ noon or even 1pm. Your sugar cravings go away. This is a great time to have a nice big salad with tons of colorful veggies with more EVOO and vinegar ā€“ add a couple soft-boiled pastured eggs for complete protein! Have some salmon and steamed broccoli for dinner. Youā€™ll start to see the weight falling off and energy rising, aches and pains go away, brain fog and other symptoms go awayā€¦
